More celebrations of the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday were happening upstairs in the Althea Center on Thursday, May 9th for the youngest of the St. Monica’s kids.

The 1st and 2nd graders who showed up this time were just as exuberant and energetic as before. The Celebration of Love workshop focused on literacy and the book “A Book of Love” by Emma Randall, pointed out in vivid color and illustrations the many different ways to show love.
The children also shared the different ways they do or could show love in their own lives. Ms. Pat assisted them in pointing out the rhyming words in the poetic style of writing found in this book.

Finally, the returning student was given his own 3D design of a shoe charm, which Ms. Linda had printed for him, and the newcomers were given an “I (heart) Lincoln Heights” shoe charm in their color of choice.
Then on to the art for the week, which Ms. Linda had prepared for them! They weaved together a two-color paper heart with a pocket at the top for a charming bunch of small, dried flowers.

The children were very proud of their final artwork and enjoyed their snacks before being dismissed from this very special Makerspace place in the Althea house.
