Fun With Quilts!#1

PART 1- Gullah People

Let's have fun with quilts at Althea's @ St. Monica's after-school program series!

Children will learn about the Gullah people in Gee's Bend, Alabama. They will explore greetings in the Gullah language, sing a Gullah's song called 'Kumbaya', read selected poems from the book Stitchin and Pullin" by Patricia McKissack, learn about quilts and the women quilters in Gee's Bend. In addition, they will make both a paper and a fabric quilt block. The kids will have a snack before going home.

This is a SoBA [Song, Book, Art] and STEAMSS [Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math+Social Studies] activity.
